Mexican Election Results

So Mexico had their Presidential election this past Sunday.  By most accounts it was a fair election, except the claim by the losing candidate that it was stolen from him.  Typical liberal-he must have been paying attention to John Kerry.

While Felipe Calderon is from the conservative National Action Party (PAN), I do not expect that he will have any positive impact on the illegal immigration situation here in Arizona.  Why should he?  Illegals are the second leading source of cash into the Mexican economy after petroleum.

Frankly, Calderon, Vicente Fox, and Mexico in general should be ashamed that they have done nothing to grow their economy while many of the emerging countries in the world have been growing at exponential rates the last 5 years.  India and China have growing middle classes.  Mexico has almost none.  Mexico's current idea of building the country is by sending as many of their poor as they can effectively encourage to sneak in this country.  Most countries would consider this to be an aggressive, if not warlike, act.

To Mr. Felipe Calderon, I say to you sir, get your house in order and stop using the United States as a valve to relieve pressure on your own economy.  Why don't you allow the kind of foreign ownership that most developed countries allow and create jobs for your people in your own country.  Why force your own people to risk life and limb to find work in a foreign country so far from their own homes and culture?

Greetings from AZ

Hello Arizona from Main Street,

I have admired the blogs I read such as Hugh Hewitt's and the ones found on National Review Online for some time, so I decided I might start one of my own about Arizona right here on Townhall.com.  What a great Web site, by the way!

My goal with this blog is to comment on many of the issues that are important to Conservatives here in Arizona.  Hopefully many of the issues will ring true with you as well-even if you don't live in Arizona.

The political climate here in Arizona now is driven by the illegal immigration issue.  While Arizona voted decisively for George Bush in 2004, I believe he would have a difficult time if he had to run for re-election again in Arizona due to his miserable record on stopping illegal immigration and protecting our borders.  Our two U.S. Senators split on this issue.  Jon Kyl is opposed to amnesty and wants to secure the borders first.  John McCain has been one of the most visible supporters of open borders.  While McCain's stance may play well with the Eastern Establishment newspapers, I do not believe he will be able to win a Presidential primary in Arizona in 2008.
